Well, he did promise to bring Israel and the Arab world together. And given that his support in Israel hovering just above zero, he definitely delivered:
Aljazeera News the premier Arab News service pounded Obama today for his failing Iranian strategy… You know it’s bad when the Arabs start criticizing you for your response to intensified government repression. Aljazeera reported: “It took two weeks of intensified government repression against protesters in Iran before Barack Obama, the US president, moved from cautious commentary to describing the crackdown as ‘violent and unjust’… Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader, do not fear the US but rather their own people’s desire to live in a country more like the US. In fact, in poll after poll Iranians have revealed themselves to be among the most pro-American and pro-democratic people in the Muslim majority world.
I doubt the protesters’ pro-American sentiments are going to survive Obama’s post-crackdown outreach. But at least they’ll be comforted to know that the rest of the Middle East will also be disgusted.
Of course the Arab world still refuses to normalize ties with Israel. But at this point it’s almost like they’re doing it to spite Obama for having promised otherwise. That and their genocidal antipathy towards the Jewish State.
But still.
