Just kidding, obviously. This is what nation-states are allowed to do when their populations are terrorized for decades by wanton and indiscriminate violence:
Sri Lanka declared total victory on Monday in one of the world’s most intractable wars, after killing the separatist Tamil Tigers’ leader and taking control of the entire country for the first time since 1983. In a climactic gunbattle, special forces troops killed Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran as he tried to flee the war zone in an ambulance early on Monday, state television reported. Prabhakaran, 54, founded the LTTE on a culture of suicide before surrender, and had sworn he would never be taken alive. Army commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka said troops had crushed the last Tigers resisting an offensive that has in less than three years destroyed a group that had cultivated an aura of military invincibility while earning many terrorism designations.
Remember how Israel had to hold off killing Arafat because the Jewish State was threatened with a full blown world war if they tried? And remember how Arafat was an unrepentant terrorist who rejected a peace deal far beyond what Sri Lanka would ever offer Prabhakaran? Doesn’t that seem a little bit backwards?
I like the touch where he tried to flee in an ambulance though. I wonder how they got him. Because it’s been explained by international bien pensants – and on more than one occasion – that interfering with terrorist-toting ambulances is a war crime. So this is probably something the UN’s going to want to look into.
