Mindless multiculturalism for the win:
Is the US Holocaust Memorial Museum whitewashing the biography of the Holocaust-era mufti of Jerusalem – a notorious Nazi collaborator?… “The museum’s biography undercuts documented facts about the mufti, and, in an effort to be politically correct, seeks to exonerate him from actually murdering Jews and falsifies the historic record,” Carol Greenwald, chairwoman of Holocaust Museum Watch, said on Tuesday. Husseini encouraged Arabs in Mandatory Palestine to riot and commit other violent acts against Jews. Yet the museum’s on-line biography states that whether he “explicitly encouraged or incited the violence is not documented.”
Let’s see if Mere Rhetoric – a blog written entirely by a lazy PhD student with a love for the sauce – has anything on this cretin that’s more accurate than the nonsense published by the well-funded US Holocaust Museum. Why yes, yes it does. In fact here’s something from four years ago:
The glaring exceptions to the politics of patronizing, arms-length tolerance have been Holocaust memorials – places that, given their manifest purpose, had to focus on the uniqueness of the Jewish experience. Even that’s changed: “Holocaust museums and memorials have shifted the nature of remembrance, moving away from the emphasis on testimony and defiance toward the teaching of tolerance and understanding, according to several Holocaust experts… Newer memorials, such as the US Holocaust Museum in Washington, which opened in 1993, often make a self-conscious attempt to universalize messages in an attempt to make them accessible to more people.”
It turns out that when you minimize the anti-Semitic motives behind the Holocaust you end up whitewashing the anti-Semitic behavior linked to the Holocaust. That was tough to predict, wasn’t it? (h/t: MR reader Lana)
