Last week Sweden forced the Israeli Davis Cup tennis team to play in an empty stadium. This week it’s a total ban on the Taekwondo team:
An Israeli taekwondo delegation, consisting of 45 athletes and 5 coaches, was supposed to travel last weekend to Trelleborg for the Swedish championship (Trelleborg Open). However, the trip was canceled due to threats by a Muslim organization. The Swedish Federation warned the Israeli delegation that they had concrete threats of an attack on the Israelis during the competition. They asked the Israeli delegation to cancel the trip due to security problems and the flight was indeed canceled. A senior Swedish taekwondo official told his colleagues in Israel: “Ten thousand members of a Muslim organization are threatening to settle the account with you because of the war in Gaza.” The threat was received by email from somebody claiming to represent a pro-Palestinian organization.
Whether those threats are credible is one thing. Whether Sweden is making the situation worse by granting these violent fanatics a hecklers’ veto – which is how they’ve been dealing with anti-Jewish incitement for years – is something totally different. Across Sweden Jewish buildings are being set on fire:
Police in Sweden are on heightened alert following a spike in anti-Semitic attacks around the country in the wake of Israel’s campaign against Gaza-based Hamas militants. A wooden staircase at a Jewish center in Helsingborg in southern Sweden was set alight twice in three days in the past week in a blaze police suspect was caused by flammable liquid spread over the stairs, according to the Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) newspaper. Technicians continue to examine the scene to determine the exact cause of the fire. And late Sunday night the Israeli embassy in Stockholm was covered with graffiti proclaiming, “Crush Israel, you broke the ceasefire!” and included other proclamations such as “Die!” and “Murderers”.
Mobs are have been rampaging through the streets chanting “Hitler! Hitler! Hitler!” At the end of last month police stood aside while Jews were attacked in broad daylight on Swedish streets:
What did the police do when these attacks were being executed by the arabs? Nothing at first, then they decided to remove us from the square! Let me say that again – the police removed us, who had a permit to be there. We were not hostile or attacking anyone. But instead of removing them, who didnt have a permit, they removed us. I spoke with the chief of police, Ulf Sempert, who was there and asked him why they didnt act on the mob. His answer, as can be heard in the video that I will post here soon, is that they have a right to be there. Apparently, that right is only for pro-arabist who attacks others. We didnt get that right, since they shipped us away.
The police inaction – weirdly – seemed to embolden the mobs. By the first week of February they were hurling rockets and pipe bombs at Jewish crowds:
We were about 400-500 persons that showed up to show our support to Israel and its struggle against terrorism and arabic hate. The arabs, that numbered about 100, where shouting “allah ahkbar” as they normally do and showed their hate towards Israel and the Jews with different slogans. It didnt take long until they started attacking us, this time with homemade pipebombs and fireworks. The home made bombs were pretty powerful, as I stood not to far away when one of them exploded. According to what I heard, the police managed to arrest the ones that threw the bombs. However, they did not disperse the arab crowd which they should have done according to me. In total there were two pipebombs, two rockets and some glass bottles.
Swedish police have given up on entering the Muslim suburbs of Malmo without outside protection. Jews are being asked to give up on entering the country as a whole. I wonder if those two are somehow connected.
A genuine multiculturalist utopia, that place.
