Turns out that Dianne Feinstein, per Bookworm Room’s post, thinks it’d be pretty sweet if Obama unilaterally dismantled the US’s nuclear arsenal and de facto gutted American national security. I was thinking of using that as the anchor for a post about how the left is trotting out all of their failed 1970s ideas. The mostly incoherent stimulus package that The Glittering Eye discussed and the impending disaster of socialized medicine that The Razor put into context would fit in nicely. But alas, for the second week in a row, most of the Council picks from last week focused on Israel’s Gaza offensive.
Two early successes of Operation Cast Lead: via JoshuaPundit, Israel disrupted Hamas’s semi-official sex trafficking network and via Cheat Seeking Missiles, Israel liquidated Hamas cretin Nizar Rayyan:
Suicide bombs were just the start of Rayyan’s commitment to terrorism and the destruction of Jews… Rayan was fundamentally opposed to the state of Israel. He proclaimed, “True Islam would ever allow a Jewish state to survive in the Muslim Middle East. Israel is an impossibility. It is an offense against God.” Rayan believed that Jews are a “cursed people” and some were transformed into pigs and apes by Allah. He also believed that Jews must pay for murdering prophets of Islam and “closing [their] your ears to the Messenger of Allah.”… The death of Nizar Rayyan, his wives and his children is a morality play of the highest order. We see in Rayyan all that is evil: arrogance, hatred, the murder of wives and children, terrorism. We see in Israel a highly moral attempt to protect the innocent while destroying the evil.
You’d think that ostensible progressives would support Israel’s success in reducing sexual exploitation and eliminating pathological bigotry. But as The Provocateur points out – not so much. There are certainly lots of ways to untangle why the vast majority of Democrats oppose Israeli self-defense. The preponderance of low-information Democrats means that the party faithful are particularly vulnerable to the unblinking historical revisionism that my post discussed and to the rank media bias that Soccer Dad outlined. But let’s not lose sight of how – when appropriately coupled with vapid affirmation – can become aggressive stupidity. It’s faux sophistication – cashed out as the pretentious moral equivalence that The Colossus of Rhodey described and that Rhymes With Right debunked – that allows these tools to avoid considering that they’re wrong. Lucky them!
Also: Right Truth reminded everybody that we’re all basically fucked. Good times.
