CNN Making Strong Play For “Most Biased Media Outlet” During Operation Cast Lead

Biased

Apparently Michael Oren’s concerns have yet to get through:

Hamas, the Islamic militant group that controls Gaza, pledges it will defend its land and people in the face of what it calls continued Israeli aggression. Each side blames the other for violating an Egyptian-brokered cease-fire, which formally expired Friday, December 19, but in reality had been weakening for months.

Technically true. But an unbiased news organization would probably have followed that up with some indication that one of those sides is demonstrably lying through their teeth. There’s actually statistical proof published in American Economic Review on how the entire media “cycle of violence” narrative is false. But let’s not get overly ambitious: how about we just admit that until this weekend Hamas leaders were bragging about how they were firing rockets into Israel and Israel wasn’t responding.

I do like the touch of writing that the ceasefire had been “weakened for months.” Kind of makes it sound like both sides were weakening it. Which isn’t technically “true” as such. But since CNN didn’t actually say that both sides were weakening the ceasefire I guess their reputation for objective journalism is safe and sound.
