The IDF stated that nine Qassam rockets were fired towards Israel from Gaza Friday evening, some of which fell in Palestinian territory. Two rockets landed in the Negev, one of which fell in open spaces near Sderot. The other landed in open spaces in Shaar HaNegev Regional Council. No injuries or damage were reported. The Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) claimed responsibility for the fire, which interrupted evening prayer in Sderot.
Sderot’s been taking more of a beating than usual. They had injuries a few weeks ago and the rocket barrages have been constant over the last week. Instead of focusing on Gaza, though, the Israeli government has been fighting the Jews that they’re trying to evict from Hebron. Now I obviously have no sympathy for settlers who attack Israel’s secular state institutions. Plus Hebron’s a cesspool for a particular kind of rightwing Jewish crazy that even the most solid Zionists won’t support except in principle. But it seems like the IDF has more pressing concerns, no?
As for that idea of putting a Palestinian prison in the way of Palestinian rocket fire: the moral questions aside – it wouldn’t make a difference.
