If you scroll down and look at the sidebar – a little below the donation buttons that you guys never hit and the ads that you never click on – you’ll see a new set of links under “Watcher’s Council.” The Council runs a kind of weekly mini-carnival where four posts – two from Council blogs and two from non-Council blogs – are chosen by the Council’s thirteen members. There seems to be a wave of this going around, but I found out yesterday that they’ve made the questionable decision of letting me into their sandbox. You’ll soon be seeing the weekly carnivals on MR and in the meantime you can check out the main page at Watcher Of Weasels. I’ve already discovered some interesting tidbits that slipped through my RSS-heavy reading habits. California voters, it turns out, are even more low-information than the already astonishingly low information general population:
In reality, every initiative in California (and by that, I mean every law on which voters are asked to vote “Yes” or “No” on anything, which strictly speaking includes not only voter initiatives but also referenda, constitutional amendments, constitutional revisions and recalls) is heavily biased in favor of “no.”… let’s take a gander at Proposition 48… given that municipal courts no longer existed, should Californians update all the sections of the Constitution that they forgot to update in 1998, which continued to reference courts that no longer existed? The people spoke, and the answer was yes, but by a margin of less than 73%-27%
In other words, democracy may indeed be over.
