There’s really no way to overestimate the fantastic job that the State Department has done in stabilizing the Mid East:
“This is the year with the greatest defense spending in the history of the Middle East,” Yiftah Shapir, head of the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv, told the Post on Sunday. “There are several reasons but the main one is, of course, Iran and its development of a nuclear capability.” Shapir, author of the institute’s annual Middle East Military Balance, which analyzes defense spending in the region, said the leading trend this year was the procurement of defense systems that could provide protection from Iranian ballistic missiles.
Luckily, Obama’s negotiations with Iran will fix that. Yes, of course State already offered to normalize ties with Iran if they’d give up their nukes. But they obviously didn’t do it with enough Hope and Change gusto. Obviously.
