In fairness, Abbas did promise to bring Fatah and Hamas together. Huge swaths of the Palestinian public already support terrorism. Maybe this was just a few West Bank Palestinians trying to create a little unity:
The IDF nabbed three Palestinians carrying nine pipe bombs at a roadblock west of Nablus Sunday evening, apparently averting a planned terror attack in Israel. The attack was foiled as a result of the alertness and insistence of a female soldier at the checkpoint. No injuries were reported in the incident. The three Palestinians arrived at the roadblock from the direction of Nablus. The female soldier asked one of them for an identification card, but remained suspicious even after he showed her his ID. At that point, the soldier asked the suspect to open his bag, yet he refused. The soldier insisted, prompting the Palestinian to remove a shirt and pants from the bag before closing it again. However, the soldier was not satisfied, opened the bag herself, and found three pipe bombs inside it.
This is the second week in a row where they’ve tried to smuggle pipe bombs through Nablus, and both are part of a larger strategy of attacking checkpoints:
In recent months, a number of attacks have been foiled at this same checkpoint. A dozen pipe bombs were discovered in two incidents this month. Earlier, Palestinian with six pipe bombs was caught in June, while in May a Palestinian was killed carrying four pipe bombs. More recently, Palestinians have taken to attacking soldiers at the checkpoint. In September, soldiers had to deal with stabbing attempts, as well as an incident in which a Palestinian woman threw acid in a soldier’s face, almost blinding him.
That acid story is here – the soldier lost an eye. Why Nablus? Because it’s a city where terrorists can operate even out of Palestinian government housing. Why checkpoints? Because the security fence derided by anti-Israel morons actually works.
