Abbas: “Please Cut Off Hamas”. Carter: “US Should Embrace Hamas”

Here’s the official position of Fatah, which – say what you will – at least pretends to consider contemplating the legitimacy of Israel’s existence:

But the Fatah Central Committee said in a statement that it “decided today not to hold any dialogue, any contacts or any meetings with the Hamas movement.” And a senior Wes tern diplomat said Abbas’s office also made it clear that it does not want the international community to have “any contact or provide any legitimacy to Hamas in Gaza,” except to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance.

And here’s former President Jimmy Carter, golden boy of the increasingly radical left and honored member of the Democratic Party:

Carter said the American-Israeli-European consensus to reopen direct aid to the new government in the West Bank, but to deny the same to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, represented an “effort to divide Palestinians into two peoples.”… He said plans to reopen international aid to the West Bank, but clamp down on aid to Gaza, would imprison 1.4 million Gazans. He called for both territories to be treated equally. “This effort to divide Palestinians into two peoples now is a step in the wrong direction,” he said. “All efforts of the international community should be to reconcile the two, but there’s no effort from the outside to bring the two together.”

Apparently, both Fatah’s efforts to isolate Hamas politically and their efforts to economically shut down the Gaza Strip are aimed at dividing the Palestinian people and undermining a Palestinian State. Yes – we have now reached a point where Jimmy Carter is instructing the party of Yasser Arafat on how to create a Palestinian state and chiding the party of Yasser Arafat for not being willing enough to cozy up to unrepentant genocidal terrorists. His speech, by the way, came while he was accepting an award for his devotion to human rights. Naturally.
