Richard Engel could have chosen any well-known last stand from any point in history as his lede for the LAF shelling of terrorists. We would suggest Custer, but there are plenty of options. Instead he choose to take one of the most emblematic symbols of American bravery:
We’re not sure what’s particularly “Alamo-like” in this last stand that the last-stand-ishness of the suicidal battle itself doesn’t cover, but we’d certainly be interested in finding out. At least he didn’t use Masada.
