And now here’s what Australia’s The Age recently allowed to muddy their opinion page:
We love the phrase “If blank did…” It allows you to get away with making the most baseless insinuations and then jumping to wild conclusions. “If The Age is run by a bunch of viciously anti-Semitic Martians hell-bent on enslaving humanity, we have to make the hard decisions and nuke them immediately”. Jagoffs.
Anyway, the slow infiltration of the Anglosphere – the birthplace and home of circumspection as a cultural value – is actually becoming a little troubling. We expect vicious demogaugoury from certain European circles – not a few authors have noted that anti-Semitism is almost palpably in the air on the Continent. It occassionally condences into wild swings of public opinion, but what’s happening here is a little different. In Britain and Australia it’s much harder to get public opinion moving – but it’s also harder to alter its course once it picks up a certain inertia (h/t: MR reader Lana)
