Remember that time in March 2005 when we called Azmi Bishara a traitor? Or that other time a year later, when we called him a traitor again? Or all those other times we called him a traitor?

Turns out, he’s a traitor:

Israeli police announced Wednesday they are investigating an Israeli-Arab politician suspected of laundering money and passing information to the enemy during Israel’s war with Hezbollah militants in Lebanon last summer. Police announced the charges against Azmi Bishara after a court-imposed gag order was lifted. Bishara “received large sums of money from overseas sources which he received personally,” according to the Israeli police. The charges against Bishara include assisting the enemy during a time of war, passing information to the enemy, being in contact with a foreign agent, and violation of money-laundering laws.

Wait. Hold on – so you’re saying that an Israeli-Arab MK who advised Israeli citizens not to join the army and regularly visited Lebanon and Syria might not have been absolutely loyal to Israel? What the hell do you think he was doing on all of those trips? Our theory is that he was accepting bribes and passing on information to Israel’s enemies. But it’s just a theory. Maybe they were playing backgammon.

Obligatory Jimmy Carter is a suspiciously anti-Semiticish tool reference: lots of black members of South Africa’s parliament supply money, information, and morale to countries at war with South Africa, did they?
