Iran: “Trying To Make Us Stop Building Nukes Will Make Us Build Nukes”

The logic is impeccable:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday said additional UN sanctions would cause Iran to step up its nuclear development even further, Iran’s state broadcasting company reported. The UN Security Council has set a deadline of late May for Iran to halt its uranium enrichment program, warning it will gradually ratchet up punishment. The council imposed limited sanctions in December and strengthened them slightly last month because of Iran’s refusal to suspend enrichment.

We kind of like how this game is playing out. Follow this logic out a little bit: Democrats have been pretty clear that we have to avoid any policy that might speed up Iranian nuclearization. Ahmadinejad has been absolutely clear that diplomatic pressure will cause Iran to speed up its nuclearization. The conclusion is inescapable:

We have to give up on diplomatic pressure because it’s causing Iranian nuclearization

Since all of the Democratic candidates have indicated that they would not forgo force as a last resort when it comes to an Iranian bomb, we eagerly await their embrace of military action against the Iranian regime.
