Wherein We Express Skepticism About Britain’s Commitment To Not Recognizing Genocidal Lunatics

Anyone want to give odds:

If any future unity government in the Palestinian Authority refuses to recognize Israel, the international community will boycott it, British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett said Wednesday. “We’ve said from the beginning that any [PA] government has to abide by the Quartet demands to recognize Israel,” Beckett told Army Radio. “If Hamas won’t change its position, we won’t be able to change ours regarding them,” Beckett declared. Beckett was set to meet later Wednesday with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

We hereby call bullshit. If Abbas joins Hamas’s government, most of the world will immediately take the opportunity to lift sanctions. They’ll say something about “positive developments” and needing to “stabilize” the Palestinian government. And then they’ll let the money and arms start flowing in, yet again saving Palestinian terrorists from the consequences of their own folly.

This will happen even if Hamas does not implement any of its treaty obligations. Israel gave up a whole lot of land and released a a whole lot of prisoners to get the Palestinians to commit to the obligations. But because Hamas is so crazy, no one really expects them to follow them. More moving the goalposts.

Only Israel is constantly monitored by dozens of human rights organizations – and only Israel is met with hysterical screeching about every infraction, real or imagined.
