We don’t have much to say about this stunt that some attention-seeking ultra-liberal Jews in Britain pulled. Basically, they formed a little club and announced that they were taking a brave stance by opposing Israel… in Britain. Let’s go over that again, because it’s kind of weird when you read it the first dozen times: a group of Jews are concerned that there’s not enough criticism of Israel… in Britain. Entire books have been written about how anti-Zionism in Britain has long ago crossed the line into open Jew-baiting.

So we have the usual stupid display of mass demonstrations against Israel where the people complain that… mass demonstrations against Israel are impossible. But here it’s extra-stupid, because it’s happening in Britain.

Have we mentioned that these people are Brits complaining about how there’s too much support for Israel in Britain. Because honestly, it just boggles the mind, doesn’t it?

Britain’s lead Jewish organization has taken basically the right stance…

In response to an article in Haaretz on Tuesday about a new organization in Britain, Independent Jewish Voices, the Board of Deputies of British Jews rejected IJV’s criticism of the board. The left-leaning IJV accused the board of failing to reflect opinions that are critical of Israel and said the organization should not have held a solidarity rally in support of Israel during last summer’s war in Lebanon. “As an umbrella body that includes people with a wide range of views, the board tries to reflect this broad feeling of support for the people of Israel without passing comment on every Israeli government policy,” the Chief Executive of the Board of Deputies, Jon Benjamin, said.

… although honestly: do you think that these people took this position because it makes sense? Because to us, it doesn’t seem like it makes much sense.
