British Embassy Funding Anti-Israel Research Studies

They really are just that open about their bias:

The British Embassy in Israel is helping to fund research on the enclaves created by the separation fence around Palestinian villages in the West Bank. The study is being carried out by the non-governmental organization Bimkom-Planners for Planning Rights. Officials from Bimkom say that the embassy contributed about 10,000 pounds towards work on the study, but did not interfere in its content.

A source in Israel’s Foreign Ministry on Monday criticized the action. “It is interference by Britain in an internal Israeli matter. How would they react in London if our embassy was to fund research on a British organization that is trying to promote an agenda that is critical of [the government]? This is not acceptable in international relations.” The British Embassy issued the following response: “We recognize Israel’s need and right to defend itself, but we believe the route of the separation fence should follow the Green Line. [Our] funding of the research was intended to examine the implications of the current route of the fence on the Palestinian population.”

The great thing about the embassy’s response? It’s not an answer! It’s an FYI. We already knew that Britain doesn’t thinks that the fence should run along the Green Line. Supposedly this is so that the fence will not prejudice final status negotiations… in favor of Israel – prejudicing them in favor of the Palestinians by putting it along the Green Line, that’s just fine!

But yeah, we know that Britain believes that. But that’s not an answer to Israel’s accusation. Doing something like this is totally out of bounds for any country that pretends to have diplomatic relations with another country.

Israel said “you’re in violation of every norm of international decorum”
Britain said “yeah, but we feel really strongly about it”

That’s not an answer to “you’re in violation of every norm of international decorum”. Yet another breathtaking example of how the normal rules of diplomatic courtesy simply don’t apply when you’re talking about the Jewish state.
