Germany And Russia Get Together For Talks… About Israel?

The world has this strange obsession with Israel. There’s always this pressing urgency to deal with the Israeli question, no matter what the context. And no matter what happens or where it happens in the world, there’s always an Israeli angle to be discussed. So it’s unsurprising that when the leaders of Germany and Russia get together, they’re going to talk about Israel:

Chancellor Angela Merkel heads for Russia on Sunday for talks with President Vladimir Putin that come amid a push to reinvigorate the Mideast peace process and questions of Europe’s dependence on Russian natural gas and oil. Merkel spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm said before the trip that the Mideast peace process would be a major topic of the talks with Putin.

You’d think they’d be able to find more important things to talk about. Like, maybe, Putin trying to shut off Europe’s oil supply(!!)

Europe’s oil supplies from Russia were being held to ransom last night as the Kremlin fell into bitter dispute with a former Soviet satellite state. Moscow abruptly halted millions of barrels of oil destined for the EU via Belarus in an increasingly hostile wrangle with its neighbour. The move raised further questions over whether Western Europe can trust Mr Putin for its energy supply.

But naw – it’s obviously more important to figure out what the Jews are up to this week.
