Northwest Airlines Caves To CAIR Boycott Threat And Apologizes, MR Caves To Our Worst Instincts And Publishes Conspiracy Theory Bait

Yet another airline crawls on all fours and apologizes because it inconvenienced Muslim passengers who showed up late for a flight:

The Muslims arrived at the Frankfurt airport at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 7 on a charter plane from Saudi Arabia. They did not show up at the ticket counter until about 20 minutes before the Detroit-bound Flight 51 left at 10:20 a.m., said Dean Breest, a Northwest Airlines spokesman… Imam Sayed Hassan Al-Qazwini told CAIR the group was at the gate at least 90 minutes before takeoff and that the airline wouldn’t help them find other accommodations. Au contraire, says Northwest… Reacting swiftly to allegations of discrimination, Northwest Airlines apologized to a group of 40 Muslims today for barring them from a plane in Germany on their return trip from the Hajj. The airline said it will reimburse the pilgrims for the other flights they were forced to take on their return from the Hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

We can’t get Alitalia to reimburse us when their two hours worth of incompetence causes us to miss our connection in London, but Northwest rewards a group of tardy passengers with chocolate kisses and mosque donations (or something like that…)

Just once, we wish that an airline would respond to a CAIR boycott threat by issuing a statement indicating that there are worse things than becoming the only hijack-proof airline on the planet.

And here’s your promised conspiracy theory bait: ever since those imams got themselves intentionally kicked off a USAir flight by acting like terrorists, there has been speculation about why CAIR is choosing battles with airlines when the Muslims they’re defending are clearly in the wrong. More than one person has suggested that directing the most absurd cries of Islamophobia at airlines – accusations that are then dutifully picked up and parroted by Democratic leaders – is part of a strategy to inhibit air security from doing anything that will be twisted into an accusation of discrimination. Like perhaps running extra searches a group of Muslim males who paid for their tickets in cash and showed up in white cotton robes but no luggage – after all, they could be just another group of really religious Muslims coming in from a pilgrimage, and you wouldn’t want to insult their sensibilities.

Not that any hijackers are that stupid (which is, incidentally, why our national airline security is worse than useless) – but that’s an argument for increased rather than decreased scrutiny.
