This is like the time when, on the eve of the Six Day War, Prime Minister Eshkol declared that “peace lies in Damascus”. Syria responded by pretending that he meant that he was going to bomb Damascus (rather than, you know, the truth – that he was asking the Syrians to make peace with Israel).
