Rewarding Abbas’s Terrorism

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is no longer even trying to hide his ties to terrorism: his media outlets are trumpeting that it was Abbas’s own Fatah organization who committed the terrorist murders over the weekend:

Voice of Palestine Radio, the official voice of Mahmoud Abbas’s Palestinian Authority, declared Sunday night that both of today’s attacks on Israelis were carried out by members of the Fatah organization headed by PLO leader Abbas. At least three people were murdered and another five wounded-including women and children– in the two drive-by shooting attacks that took place within minutes of one another: one on a group of civilians at a bus-stop south of Bethlehem, the other on the road between Jerusalem and Nablus.

The international community has leapt into action by setting up official visits between Abbas and US President Bush and Abbas and French President Chirac. And if these meetings weren’t going to be perceived as rewards for violence, it would make sense that they’d want to meet with Abbas – after all, it’s his people committing the terrorism and he even seems to have the power to stop Palestinian terrorism across the board.
