It’s well known that, under the Camp David Accords, Israel gave the Sinai Peninsula back to Egypt. What’s slightly less well-known is that Israel also tried to return the Gaza Strip to Egypt, but Egypt wouldn’t take it because they knew that it was a cesspool of illiterate terrorists (feel free to use that factoid the next time some ignorance, pretentious Leftist pops off about the “Zionist occupation of Arab lands”). So the IDF had to maintain control of Gaza, and occasionally had to make it uncomfortable for certain, radical terrorist leaders to stay there. Now that Israel is disengaging from the Gaza Strip, they’re all coming back:
Nayef Hawatmeh, head of the Marxist-Leninist Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), announced Thursday that he will move to the Gaza Strip after Israel completes its withdrawal.
Hawatmeh, who is based in Damascus, is the first leader of a radical Palestinian group to announce his intention to move to Gaza after disengagement. The leaders of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) have also reportedly expressed their desire to move to the Gaza Strip.
And while I have no doubt that terrorist leaders will feel right at home living in the Gaza Strip, there’s also an additional benefit to having them all in one place: the first time that a terrorist attack comes out of the Gaza Strip after disengagement, Israel will know where to find all of the terrorist commanders.
