You can tell just how bad Arafat is:
From his hospital bed, Yasser Arafat swiftly condemned a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv on Monday – a sign the ailing Palestinian leader wants to convey the impression he is still in charge despite deteriorating health.
Arafat appealed to “all Palestinian factions to avoid harming Israelis,” his aide, Nabil Abu Rdeneh, quoted him as saying just hours after a Palestinian teenager blew himself up at an outdoor market, killing three Israelis and injuring 32.
While I think that this is clear proof that Arafat has finally lost what little of his mind he had left, the Guardian predictably headlines this article with “Arafat’s Condition Improving, Aides Say”. I have two problems with this headline: (1) Condemning terrorism is not exactly normal for Arafat. (2) It’s factually incorrect. But as usual the Guardian is busy dispensing Palestinian propaganda as news. You go with what you’re good at, I guess.
UPDATE: Meryl doesn’t believe Arafat even said it. Maybe he said it but then forgot.
