The UN has a new Syrian peace proposal. Not much new here – the Israelis are supposed to le the UN decide whether or not the Arabs are really busy inciting or committing murder against Jews, while the Arabs are supposed to kill Jews more discreetly so that the UN isn’t put into the awkward position of having to condemn them. So no new roles or anything for anyone to have to learn. Offering Israel the same noose over and over again is known as “international diplomacy” in most corners of the globe, so this has a familiar feel for everyone.
What’s particularly appalling in terms of similarity is that the UN is actually proposing that the agreement be enforced by US, UN, and French troops. Since the US is over-stretched as it is, I assume that that means UN and French troops. Now, one of the incidents of UN bias and mendacity that infuriates me every time I think about it is the UN complicity in the Har Dov kidnapping. Recall that in return for Israel’s withdrawal from South Lebanon, the UN was supposed to secure the border and prevent attacks against Israel.
Well, Israel was attacked and took (we later found out killed) 3 Israeli boys on the Israeli side of the border. What did the UN do? First, they did nothing and let it happen.
Then they investigated, getting the evidence of the attack and a videotape of some of the kidnappers.
Then they returned the evidence back to Hizbullah (because it wasn’t UN property!!! Obeying strict property law for the benefit of international terrorists who had made it look like your property so they could kill!!!) and denied the existence of the tape.
Then 9 months later (9 months of total uncertainty in the lives of the family), they admitted after Israel compiled overwhelming evidence that they did have the tape, but refused to turn it over.
Then they turned over an edited version, under strict viewing rules, without the faces of the terrorists.
And now they want another chance!
UN Promises To Really Try Hard This Time
